Record number of visitors – despite 34 degrees!

The WITHOUT BORDERS Festival 2019 was a complete success: four days of a continuous programme – with sold out screenings for the first time, international film guests and about 3000 spectators. Despite the high summer temperatures, the festival attracted many more visitors to the culturebarn of the Eibenhof than last year!

One of the highlights: the conversation between director Margarethe von Trotta – this year’s guest of honour – and her son, director Felix Moeller, about his documentary “SYMPATHISANTEN – Unser Deutscher Herbst”. “Here you get the chance to watch films that you would like to see so much, but that you get to see far too seldom on the big screens,”Margarethe von Trotta praised the program. Film director Burhan Qurbani, who together with actor Clemens Schick, television journalist Antonia Rados and sociologist Prof. Heinz Bude discussed this year’s main “WE” on Sunday, was especially impressed by the audience: “The viewers here are super interested. And even in the heat the audience is so concentrated and attentive”, Burhani said in an interview with DW.

A total of 17 documentaries and feature films as well as the premieres of this year’s WITHOUT BORDERS workshops for young people with and without a migration background were shown and celebrated this year. The pre-cinema premiere of the award-winning feature film “Systemsprenger” by Nora Fingscheidt was only one of the films that ensured a sold out barn.

The numerous guests discussed under the summer sky until late into the night with, among others with director Jean Boué, actress Claudia Eisinger, actress Inka Friedrich, producer Peter Hartwig, director  Annekatrin Hendel, director Kim Hopkins, actor Constantin von Jascheroff, author Michael Kohlhase, director Lars Kraume, actress Ulrike Krumbiegel, Brandenburgs Media State Secretary  Thomas Kralinski, producer Thomas Kufus, district administrator Rolf Lindemann, director Felix Moeller, actress Anna Maria Mühe, Medienboard managing director Kirsten Niehuus, actress and scriptwriter Nele Mueller-Stöfen, actress Zorica Nusheva, actor Axel Pape, cameraman Thomas Plenert, actress Katja Riemann, television journalist Antonia Rados, actor Clemens Schick, actress Swetlana Schönfeld, actress Anna Schudt, producer Margareta Szabo, director and scriptwriter Margarethe von Trotta and actor Ronald Zehrfeld.

The WITHOUT BORDERS team thanks all participants, supporters, sponsors and spectators – and is looking forward to seeing you again in 2020!!
