“Denkste Puppe”: A film about hope and encounters

The protagonists Mostafa, Mojtaba, Mohebi and Alireza from Afghanistan and Iran were present at the pre-cinema premiere of the documentary “Denkste Puppe”. They traveled to the event especially for the screening and were able to engage in an intensive exchange with the audience during the subsequent film discussion. Outside the barn, the conversation continued with Caritas residents, which led to a beautiful encounter and a touching exchange.

The film, directed by Hanna Schygulla, the grande dame of European cinema, follows the lives of these young refugees over several years and documents their development since “The Unaccompanied” (2017) with spontaneous cell phone footage. Migration is a personal topic for Schygulla, as she herself had to flee Upper Silesia with her family as a child.
