Suddenly extended family – strict lockdown, self-isolation – and everything could be so beautiful: always Sunday, no seminar, no shooting, no appointments… The randomly newly thrown together family constellation becomes the centre, the own plot in a village at the gates of Berlin the “film set”. Torn out of the frenzy of full employment, young and old, stagnation and actionism, East and West, hope and nihilism collide until the shreds fly. Like a colourful patchwork quilt, it takes hard work before a new togetherness can emerge in this forced flat-sharing community. It is not for nothing that the word “patchwork” also contains the word “work”. While the pandemic becomes a serious threat, Annekatrin Hendel succeeds in creating a wonderfully entertaining, self-ironic spectacle about the struggle of a family in times of forced isolation with “Vertreibung ins Paradies”.
