CALL JANE

Joy, a traditional American housewife of the 1960s, wants a second child. But the positive news of her pregnancy is clouded by the threat to her own life. Her gynaecologist recognises the seriousness of the situation and asks the hospital for a therapeutic abortion – to no avail. The all-male hospital board refuses to grant her an exemption from the strict anti-abortion laws. She doesn’t know where to turn until she comes across the “Janes”, a group of ordinary underground women who risk everything to give women like Joy choices. Not only do they save her life, but they also give her a purpose: to help other women take control of their own destinies.

Screenwriter Phyllis Nagy’s „“Call Jane comes amidst a multitude of backsliding on abortion rights in the US, making it frighteningly more timely than ever.
