“A heartwarming and humorous film that delighted both the audience and the press at the Berlinale.” (Media Office)

70-year-old Mahin lives alone in Tehran after the death of her husband and the emigration of her daughter. A convivial afternoon tea with friends inspires her to leave her monotonous everyday life behind and revitalize her love life. In her search for a new partner, she spontaneously opens up to Faramarz, a cab driver of the same age. This chance encounter leads to an unexpected and unforgettable night.

MY FAVOURITE CAKE is the third collaboration between Iranian directing duo Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha. The film celebrated its world premiere at the Berlinale 2024 and tells a touching story about hope, love and the subtle emancipation of women in Iran with subtle humor.

During the festival, the work was honored with the FIPRESCI Award as well as the Ecumenical Jury Prize for Best Competition Film. In a statement read out by actress Farhadpour on behalf of the directors, the film was dedicated to the protesting women in Iran. The directors expressed the hope that MY FAVOURITE CAKE could one day be shown in cinemas in Iran.
