Screening at the Kulturscheune Eibenhof
This film brings an important figure in world history back into the limelight. Close companions and friends share their insights into the personal and political life of Petra Kelly for the first time. Previously unpublished international archive footage paints a portrait of a sensitive and steadfast woman who allowed no one to hold her back.
Petra Kelly was an extraordinary campaigner for peace and the environment, far ahead of her time. As a co-founder of the Green Party, she became a symbolic figure of the European peace movement and engaged in dialog with civil rights activists such as Wolf Biermann and international activists such as singer Joan Baez. Even 40 years ago, Kelly called for radical social transformation and saw environmental, peace and human rights issues as inextricably linked.
“PETRA KELLY – ACT NOW!” honors her legacy and inspires young people to take action to protect our planet. Her belief in civil disobedience remains relevant today: “We transgress laws because we reckon with a higher law.”
