Joseph and Sonya are bound by a close friendship and their young son Pino, whom they are raising together. While director Joseph is working on a new film idea and the break-up with his ex-boyfriend Marc, Sonya suffers from a depression, which is increasingly tearing her out of her life. When she is placed in a clinic, Joseph not only has to juggle his everyday family life, but also his artistic ambitions.
In his second feature film, writer and director Fabian Stumm (“Bones and Names”) mixes a wide variety of emotional tones to create a tragicomic reflection on reality. “Sad Jokes” is absurd and banal, hopeful and touching or – as in real life – all at once.
Followed by a film talk with director Fabian Stumm and Haley Louise Jones.
