Concert reading at the Kulturscheune Eibenhof
Moderation: Ralf Hermersdorfer
The actor Ludwig Blochberger reads from “The Book of the Listeners Slain by Neil Young” by
Navid Kermani, accompanied by him singing and playing Neil Young songs live on the guitar. The narrative as well as the music develop their very own dynamic in the concert reading and are not only for lovers of Neil Young.
“The Book of the Listeners Slain by Neil Young” is more than just the most beautiful, cleverest, craziest book ever written about rock music – it is a hymn to life. Night after night, the narrator’s newborn daughter writhes in convulsions. The only effective antidote: the songs of Neil Young. Father and daughter embark on a journey through the Canadian musician’s cosmos towards lost illusions and fleeting moments of happiness.
The actor Ludwig Blochberger (e.g. “The Lives of Others”, “The Old Man”, “The Last Train”) discovered Neil Young’s music at the age of 14, bought a guitar shortly afterwards and learned to play it self-taught. His passion for Neil Young’s music continues to this day: A “Tribute to Neil Young” concert at the Prachtwerk in Berlin in 2017 was followed by the first concert reading “The Book of the Listeners Slain by Neil Young” in 2024.
