Rio de Janeiro, 1950: Euridice and her older sister Guida grow up well protected in a strict household. The talented Euridice finds in her older sister the support she desperately needs in a patriarchal society. While Guida encourages her little sister to seriously pursue her dream of a life as a professional pianist, she also always confides in her about her latest romantic adventures. However, when she runs away to Greece with her boyfriend and returns months later pregnant and without a husband, she is disowned by the family: her father treats her like a leper and explains that her sister has moved to Vienna to study music.
