Film screening at Cinema by Velotel
A studio where people with physical or mental disabilities work artistically – together, yet each on their own. Olli Duerr’s documentary Zeppelin oben rechts (Zeppelin Top Right) follows artists over several years in the inclusive project ‘Atelier23’ run by Lebenshilfe Gießen. A life-affirming, inspiring portrait of an artists’ collective that should definitely set a precedent.
The camera remains restrained, observant, leaving room for what emerges – in the material as well as in the interpersonal relationships. Without explanatory commentary, a narrative unfolds about artistic work, about doubts and new beginnings, about community and self-assertion. Zeppelin oben rechts conveys in every minute the closeness that the director was able to build with the people over the course of six years. The seven artists and their works are portrayed from the initial idea to the presentation in the gallery – an inclusive art space that is unparalleled beyond the city limits of Giessen.
Followed by a discussion with filmmaker Ollie Duerr.
