In West Prignitz, five men are competing for the direct mandate for the next Brandenburg state parliament. Each of the candidates from the SPD, CDU, Left Party, Greens, and AfD is trying in their own way to make their voices heard based on or in opposition to the policies made in Potsdam or Berlin. Not an easy task, because standardized roads, wind turbines right on people's doorsteps, or slow internet—local constraints and public moods matter more to people than party platforms. And that only makes it easy for the AfD to cast its nets.

People in rural areas are harder to reach in every respect than city dwellers. Both sides—politicians from the established parties as well as their voters—feel misunderstood and unheard. On the weekend of the Brandenburg state elections, FILM OHNE GRENZEN is showing this documentary by director Jean Boué, who has lived in the Prignitz region himself for 12 years. He accompanied the five candidates on the campaign trail and gives a voice to a „left-behind“ region.
