„Unobtrusive, powerful—and long-lasting.“—The Guardian

A summer in Rio, early 1970s. The Paiva family lives by the beach, five children, a house full of voices, music and warmth. When father Rubens is dragged away by the military police one day and does not return, the family's idyllic world suddenly shatters. But helplessness turns into determination – Rubens' wife Eunice fights against oblivion and against fear. Between children's bedrooms, courtrooms and street protests, she finds her own voice and rises above herself.

I'm Still Here tells this true story with quiet force and emotional depth. In serene images and with a keen sense for closeness and loss, director Walter Salles paints a family portrait in the shadow of the Brazilian dictatorship.

The film was won the award for Best Screenplay at the Venice Film Festival excellent and received the Oscar for Best International Feature Film 2025.
