WHERE/MEN + FILM TALK

Film screening at the Cinema by Velotel

This exciting and moving documentary focuses on six so-called Burrneshas, who live an old tradition in the remote mountains of northern Albania: they deny their female identity and take on a male role, renouncing marriage and family - and thus escape patriarchal constraints, violence and dependency. The film by Kristine Nrecaj and Birthe Templin follows these extraordinary women with great closeness and respect. In impressive images and sensitive portraits, the film tells of courage, identity and a life beyond social expectations. It raises the question of what gender really means - and what freedom can look like if you have to create it yourself.

A quiet, powerful film that moves and lingers for a long time.

The screening will be followed by a film talk with the directors Kristine Nrecaj and Birthe Templin.
