IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RIVER

Director and writer Damian John Harper presents an intense film experience with amateur actors and long camera sequences—a cinematic challenge that is brutal, moving, and profoundly authentic. Young soldier Gabriel returns home to rural New Mexico from Iraq because he wants to investigate the death of his sister. He stays with his grandmother and siblings. Believing that his violent grandfather is to blame for her death, he has sworn to kill him. But when he attempts to put his plan into action, he finds himself forced to spend a day with the old man. Grandfather and grandson realize that they have experienced similarly traumatic things in war. Gabriel's plan begins to falter, as does his black-and-white worldview. He must admit to himself that he, too, plays a major role in the family conflict.
