The film Persian Hours, which premiered at this year's Berlinale, is a successful and sensitive film adaptation of Wolfgang Kohlhaase's story „The invention of a language“.

1942 in occupied France: Belgian Jew Gilles Crémier is arrested by the SS and taken to a concentration camp in Germany. There he pretends to be Persian in order to escape a mass shooting. However, this is precisely why he becomes the focus of attention, as the camp commandant is keen to learn the language so that he can open a restaurant in Iran after the war. Now Gilles has to teach his tormentor Farsi - without knowing a single word himself. Can this incredible deception succeed?

The film drama with Lars Eidinger and Nahuel Pérez Biscayart in the two leading roles is a kind of chamber play with elements of a roguish comedy: you often think you recognize the handwriting of the great screenwriter Kohlhaase and his special tone on the fine line between tragedy and situation comedy.
