Trading Happiness

The graduation film by Duc Ngo Ngoc at the Film University Babelsberg is a sensitive short film about a mother's decision to marry off her daughter to a rich Chinese man for financial reasons.

However, on her daughter's wedding day, Nghi, a Vietnamese woman, is overcome by an uneasy feeling. The 17-year-old Phuong is supposed to ease her family's debt burden with the marriage. However, it turns out that the Chinese man is not what the matchmaker Lan promised—the young bride flees, leaving her family behind with all the consequences. What price is the mother willing to pay for the family's happiness?

 Masks for everyone

The short documentary portrait by Anna Faroqhi and Haim Peretz tells of a joint project at a time when gathering together was difficult due to the pandemic. Germans and refugees from Somalia and Syria sew about 3,000 masks at the Friedensdorf Storkow meeting place, which are offered free of charge to all residents of the town. Among them are the children of people with essential jobs at the nearby primary school, who paint their own designs on the masks.

During work, people learn from each other and joke around with one another – wearing masks and keeping their distance.
