A woman tells the story of Marie-Louise Chatelaine, the mother of director Jeanine Meerapfel. The film follows the path of Marie-Louise and her life journey from France to Germany and then into exile in Argentina. The filmmaker Jeanine Meerapfel, who is also president of the Akademie der Künste, reconstructs her mother's phases of departure and uncertainty like an archaeologist. This creates a pull of associative images that leave room for the untold. Memories and passages from letters merge into a very touching cinematic essay about several broken biographies. At the same time, the director reflects on the fragmented nature of memory: „What is remembered, what is forgotten, and why?“
