With IT IS THE SPOKEN WORD, Student Academy Award winner Ilker Çatak succeeds in creating a moving film about the courage to face the unfamiliar and take risks. A story about a marriage of convenience based not on feelings, but on principles. At least, that is how it seems at the beginning.

Marion is a successful pilot in the prime of her life. While on vacation in Turkey, she meets Baran, who immediately woos her. He wants to turn his life around and escape the impoverished conditions of his country. When he asks Marion to take him with her to Germany, she unexpectedly agrees and enables him to start a new life in Europe through a marriage of convenience. However, the „deal“ the two agreed upon cannot be maintained for long.

Anne Ratte-Polle received the 2020 Bavarian Film Award for her portrayal of the tough but cancer-stricken Marion.
