Who hasn't felt it often in their life, this uncertain and bittersweet feeling? This tugging in the chest that can be painful yet exhilarating at the same time.

This year's festival theme is LONGING.„There was a longing for something that was lost, a longing for something that had not been fulfilled, a longing to find something, and sometimes also to lose something.“ writes Iris Wolff in her novel „The Shadow of the World“ and means the feeling of a peculiar vagueness. A yearning, a desire that helps people deal with their own incompleteness, with losses, and with an imperfect life. A feeling of dissatisfaction that can nevertheless give life a significant direction.

With our 2021 program, we want to highlight all these different facets of the much-invoked, uncertain yet present LONGING. What do we long for? How do we deal with it when our desire is not fulfilled and our LONGING grows ever greater? How diverse can LONGING look?
