SORDA – THE SOUND OF THE WORLD

Will my child hear me? – A question that looms ever larger during the pregnancy of the deaf Ángela as she and her hearing partner, Héctor, await their first child. What seems a given for many expectant parents becomes an existential concern for Ángela: Will she be able to bond with her child? And how will her child navigate a world not designed for its needs? These differing perspectives ultimately lead to conflicts within the young family as well.

„A masterclass in inclusive filmmaking“ – Photograms

The film tells a powerful story about love, parenthood, and life between two worlds. Míriam Garlo delivers a compelling performance as Ángela with great presence and authenticity, drawing on her own experiences as a deaf actress. Director Eva Libertad brings themes to the fore that often receive little attention from both deaf and hearing perspectives, portraying communication, misunderstandings, closeness, and the challenges that arise when different realities collide on an equal footing.
