„Sleeping with a Tiger“ is the title of a painting by the Austrian female painter Maria Lassnig.

Grown up in the south of Austria, Lassnig is drawn via the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts into the local post-war art scene. Taciturn, stubborn among men who love to hear themselves talk, she feels her way into her body and looks out at the world. She paints. She films. Mercilessly and with mischief. Tenaciously, she builds her career.

SLEEPING WITH A TIGER is a poetic portrait of painter Maria Lassnig, outstandingly played by Birgit Minichmayr. A film about the search for her very personal artistic expression, her struggle in the male-dominated art world, and her physical wrestling with her painting, in which she brings her inner pain onto the canvas.
