„A heartbreaking work of shattering genius...! SAM NOW is unlike any other movie I've ever seen... a truly remarkable work of art that I will never forget.“ (Chris Burlingame, THE SUNBREAK)

Sam Harkness and his family in Seattle are shocked when their mother suddenly disappears. Years later, Sam and his half-brother set off on a road trip to the West Coast to follow cryptic clues and find their mother. But this is only the beginning of their story. The film explores Sam's 25-year search for answers, addressing intergenerational trauma and family dysfunction and healing. Through personal revelations, his own family films and experimental films by his brother Reed, we experience their emotional journey and accompany Sam on 2,000 miles.

„Sensitive and surprising... a movie whose emotional reality seems to unfold before your eyes... Attentively edited, the film blends the perspectives of many family members without passing judgment, developing a painful poignancy, (..) a mature reckoning with love, pain, independence and hard-won wisdom.“ (Nicolas Rapold, The New York Times)
