EXPULSION TO PARADISE

Screening at Cinema Bad Saarow

Suddenly a big family – strict lockdown, self-isolation – and everything could be so beautiful: Sunday all the time, no seminars, no shoots, no appointments… The randomly reformed family constellation becomes the center, one's own plot of land in a town outside Berlin becomes the „film set.“ Torn from the frenzy of full employment, young and old, stillness and activism, East and West, hope and nihilism collide until the fur flies. Like a colorful patchwork quilt, it takes hard work for a new togetherness to emerge in this forced shared living situation. It's not for nothing that the word „patchwork“ also contains „work.“ While the pandemic becomes a serious threat, Annekatrin Hendel's „Expulsion to Paradise“ is a wonderfully entertaining, self-ironic spectacle about a family's struggle in times of forced isolation.
