WHAT CONNECTS US

Screening at Cinema by Velotel

In Carine Tardieu's very touching family drama, single Sandra, who lives in a French city and runs a feminist bookstore, is the focus. When the couple from the neighboring apartment, Alex and his partner Cécile, have to go to the hospital for the delivery, the bookseller agrees to look after their six-year-old son Elliot, even though the mid-fifties woman doesn't know what to do with children. However, complications arise during the birth, and the mother dies.

In the time that follows, Sandra increasingly grows into the role of an important female figure not only for the boy, but also for the widowed father and the newborn daughter, Lucille. Alex is friends with David, Elliot's biological father. A deep bond develops between Sandra and the grieving survivors, even though she has to figure out where her boundaries lie. She becomes an important pillar of support for Elliot and Alex. „What Unites Us“ is a life-affirming drama that gently handles themes such as grief, loss, and connection—a total must-see!
