Seventy-year-old Mahin lives alone in Tehran following the death of her husband and the emigration of her daughter. An afternoon tea with friends inspires her to leave her monotonous daily routine behind and revitalize her love life. In search of a new partner, she spontaneously opens up to Faramarz, a taxi driver of the same age. This chance encounter leads to an unexpected and unforgettable night.

MY FAVORITE CAKE is the third collaboration between the Iranian director duo Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha. The film celebrated its world premiere at the 2024 Berlinale and tells a touching story with subtle humor about hope, love, and the subtle emancipation of women in Iran.

During the festival, the work was honored with the FIPRESCI Prize as well as the Ecumenical Jury Award for the best competition film. In a statement read by actress Farhadpour on behalf of the directors, the film was dedicated to the protesting women in Iran. The directors expressed hope that MY FAVORITE CAKE can one day be shown in Iranian cinemas as well.
