Screening at Cinema by Velotel Bad Saarow

With targeted immigration, attempts are being made to get Brandenburg's population decline under control. Hope also rests on a group of teenage girls of diverse backgrounds who are claiming their place in the region and in society. Who am I? And who do I want to become? The girls have yearnings, dreams, and wishes, and are looking for ways to realize them. Filmmaker Rand Beiruty, who is herself rooted in two cultures, empowers them in the process. She opens up spaces for the young women to have their own experiences and gives them the chance through the film to discover the strength behind them. Sensitively observed and always at eye level with the protagonists. It is a joy to watch the girls grow up. The project development took place as part of the Wolfgang Kohlhaase Fellowship.

Biography of the director

Rand Beiruty is a writer, director, producer, and co-founder of Shaghab Films, a Jordanian production company. She studied at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and subsequently earned her practice-based PhD from the Film University Babelsberg. She lives between Amman and Berlin.
