Young Asmaa was tragically expelled from her home country of Syria. Her fate as a wife and mother seemed predetermined from the age of 16. But Asmaa manages to build a new identity as a storyteller. She reads aloud to children in the neighborhood, giving the children in the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan not only a little confidence, but also a more dignified life for herself. When Asmaa's first-born daughter reaches puberty, memories of her own uneducated childhood surface and inspire her to start a new reading project with teenage girls. Asmaa is determined to raise a generation of successful women who can imagine a self-determined future despite the complex life situation as refugees and the conservative mentality of the community.

Followed by a discussion with filmmaker Alejandra Alcala, protagonist Asmaa Rashed and the director of Women for Women International, Caroline Kent.
