FILM OHNE GRENZEN is pleased to present, thanks to its media partnership with rbb, not only the „Talk aus Bad Saarow“ with rbb host Jörg Thadeusz (broadcast on September 17, 2020 at 00:00 on rbb), but also a workshop discussion at the film festival – this year focusing on the documentary film „Expedition Arktis“ (broadcast on November 16, 2020 at 20:15 on ARD). Jörg Thadeusz will be joined by director and producer Philipp Grieß, director of photography Susanna Salonen, and sea ice physicist Dr. Stefanie Arndt from the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research.

Arctic Expedition

It is the longest and most complex Arctic expedition of all time: In September 2019, the German icebreaker „Polarstern“ sets off to drift frozen into an ice floe for a year through the ice deserts not far from the North Pole. On board: the best scientists of their generation. Their task: collect data – about the ocean, the ice, and the atmosphere. The mission: to understand climate change. A unique research voyage under extreme weather conditions through the polar night. Then the corona pandemic presents everyone with additional challenges. An adventure with an open outcome.

The 90-minute documentary, of which first excerpts will be presented during the workshop discussion, provides a spectacular close-up of the „Mosaic“ expedition of the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI).
