ZDF has also embraced the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus. Even before the TV broadcast in September, we are pleased to show two episodes from the first season of the series. They deal with the beginnings of the famous art and design school in Weimar, which aimed for a new understanding of art, craftsmanship, and architecture—a new human being, indeed, a new era.

The opulently produced series features a top-tier cast and tells the story of the courageous founders, noble ideals, and significant challenges of the progressive Bauhaus school within a still rather conservative society. Central figures are Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius, from whose perspective the story is told in retrospect, and the gifted and rebellious art student Dörte Helm. After initially clashing repeatedly due to differing views on the development of the school and art, they eventually grow closer.
