Screening in the Gut Eibenhof culture barn 

The Oscar-nominated documentary „Homesickness - Childhood Between Fronts“ by Danish film director Simon Lereng Wilmont tells the very emotional story of Ukrainian children affected by the Russian invasion that divided their country back in 2014. The film takes us to the year 2019 in an orphanage-like home in Lysychansk, a city in the eastern Luhansk Oblast in Ukraine. Many families in the region have been torn apart due to the Russian invasion. Children from these broken families are placed in homes for social and psychological rehabilitation until the authorities can decide their fate. The documentary shows in a touching way how the socially committed social workers in the homes try to give the children back a sense of confidence and hope for a better tomorrow, despite all the hardship.

The screening will be followed by a film talk with Volker Schlöndorff and director Simon Lereng Wilmont.
