IVIE HOW IVIE

Ivie, who is Afro-German, lives with her best friend Anne in Leipzig and works temporarily in her ex-boyfriend's tanning salon while still looking for a permanent teaching position.

Raised by her white mother, Ivie has never met her Senegalese father. She gets annoyed when she is asked about her „personal background“ in job interviews, but otherwise her father is not really an issue for her. Until her Berlin half-sister Naomi suddenly shows up at her door and confronts her with the death of their shared father and his upcoming funeral in Senegal.

An impressive feature film debut about self-discovery and diversity, in which director Sarah Blaßkiewitz processes her own experiences as an Afro-German.
