RABIYE KURNAZ V. GEORGE W. BUSH

Turkish woman Rabiye Kurnaz (Meltem Kaptan) leads the life of a humble housewife in her terraced house in Bremen. Everything changes abruptly when her son Murat lands in Guantanamo. Suddenly, she finds herself a plaintiff before the Supreme Court in Washington. The fight for her son Murat's release from the Guantanamo detention camp catapults the Turkish housewife out of her small world and directly into world politics. At her side is human rights lawyer Bernhard Docke, who argues with her and becomes her friend. „Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush“ is based on a true story and is a political thriller, comedy, legal, and family drama. With spirit and a big heart, Andreas Dresen and Laila Stieler tell of the almost hopeless struggle of an unequal couple against arbitrariness and injustice.
