Beauty and transience

SOLD OUT!!

Annekatrin Hendel, producer, director, and author, is known for her unusual contemporary documentaries, and with this film she has landed her latest coup: „Beauty and Transience“ portrays the photographer and Berghain bouncer Sven Marquardt, his friends, and his youth in the East Berlin punk scene. It brings to light an almost forgotten East Berlin and its surprisingly vibrant subculture.

Together, Marquardt, his friends „Dome“ Hollenstein, and Robert Paris, also a photographer, recall the spirit of a creative, rebellious youth in the GDR. Paris's black-and-white images from the decaying East Berlin of the 80s offer a striking contrast to the dreamy boudoir where the friends meet today, showcasing the radical transformation the city has undergone since then. A film about Berlin, the unconditional longing for individuality and nonconformity, about growing older, and about friendship.
