PREMIERE
The film, which celebrated its world premiere in the Panorama section of the 2018 Berlinale, tackles the emotionally charged topic of boat refugees and tells the story of a woman's transformation when she is torn from her ideal world. The dedicated emergency doctor Rike finally has a vacation and decides to fulfill her long-cherished dream and travel alone on a sailing ship from Gibraltar to Ascension, a small tropical island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Her wish for a carefree vacation gets off to a good start until, after a storm, she comes across a damaged, hopelessly overloaded refugee boat that is about to sink. More than a hundred people are in danger of drowning. Rike tries to organize help and calls for assistance by radio. But no one feels responsible. Rike makes a momentous decision and takes 14-year-old Kingsley on board her boat.
