THE LOST KING is an incredible film drama by Stephen Frears that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022. The film tells the true story of the discovery of the remains of England's King Richard III by amateur historian Philippa Langley in 2012.
Philippa Langley, a petite, chronically ill single mother from Edinburgh, sets out in search of the grave of King Richard III. After attending a performance of Shakespeare's „Richard III“, the shy woman is fascinated by the handsome actor playing the king. And suddenly she has a mission that will turn her life upside down and change history: To find Richard's grave and disprove his reputation as a hunchbacked nephew-killer and unworthy usurper. An almost overwhelming task for a woman in the middle of a divorce. But Philippa, a little lost herself, feels a connection to the maligned monarch, devours history books and searches for the truth. As she walks across a parking lot in Leicester, she is absolutely certain that Richard's grave is there. She begins raising funds to commission the excavation of the site, which eventually leads to the discovery of Richard III's remains. A true and absolutely incredible story!
