“House by the lake” grant
Film and documentary film projects, expecially in their early phases, are reliant on support in terms of finance and of content development. It’s a rocky road from idea to script or film concept; as well as inspiration and energy, tranquility and financial independence are required.
Berlin has become a magnet for international creative artists since the reunification of Germany. The stipends of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and other international exchange programmes have brought many writers, visual artists and film makers to Berlin, which has enriched the city and its cultural life immeasurably. The „House by the lake“ grant builds on this international spirit and addresses international film makers who would like to discover Berlin and Brandenburg, as well as filmmakers who are based in Berlin or Brandenburg and would like to develop international film projects.
Filmmakers with fiction or documentary film projects that are in the treatment phase may apply. Eligible candidates are international filmmakers who would like to develop a project that is directly related to Berlin/Brandenburg, or filmmakers based in Berlin/Brandenburg who would like to develop an international film project.
„A place which doesn’t lack in beauty and a programme that doesn’t lack in meaning. If watching TV constantly consumes your evenings, then here you’ll find a type of watching closely which applies to films and faces. Culture as a conversation, a practicing of neigbourliness, as a bridge between one place and the world.”
