Beyond the detached formulas of financial reporting that do not focus on understanding the big picture, documentary filmmaker Carmen Losmann sets out with great acumen to illuminate the structure of contemporary capitalism.
With “Oeconomia”, the German undertakes a journey into the strategic centre of neoliberal politics. An ambitious and difficult undertaking, because many insiders of the banking and financial sector prefer not to talk in front of a camera – and those who do get involved are more than once at a loss for words. As transparent as the architecture of banks and financial institutions appears to be, the doors close quickly for the investigating director. She makes a virtue of necessity by using, among other things, telephone transcripts and computer-generated images to make the abstract and difficult to understand more vivid.
