A HOUSE MADE OF SPLINTERS

Screening in the cultural barn Gut Eibenhof

Nominated for an Oscar this year, the documentary “A  House Made of Splinters” by Danish film director Simon Lereng Wilmont tells the very emotional story of Ukrainian children affected by the Russian invasion that divided their country back in 2014. The film takes us to 2019 in an orphanage-like home in Lysychansk, a city in Ukraine’s eastern Luhansk oblast. Many families have been torn apart in the region due to the Russian invasion. Children from these broken families are placed in homes for social and psychological rehabilitation until the authorities can decide their fate. The documentary shows in a touching way how the socially committed social workers in the homes try, despite all hardship, to give the children back a sense of confidence and hope for a better tomorrow.

Afterwards Volker Schlöndorff in conversation with the director Simon Lereng Wilmont!
