THE LOST KING

Screening at the cultural barn Gut Eibenhof

The Lost King is an incredible film drama by Stephen Frears that premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival The film tells the true story of the discovery of the remains of England’s King Richard III by amateur historian Philippa Langley in 2012.

Philippa Langley, a petite, chronically ill single mother from Edinburgh , sets out to find the tomb of King Richard III. After attending a performance of Shakespeare’s “Richard III,” the shy woman is intrigued by the handsome actor playing the king. And suddenly she has a mission that will turn her life around and change history: To find Richard’s grave and disprove his reputation as a hunchback nephew-killer and unworthy usurper. An almost overwhelming task for a woman in the midst of a divorce. But Philippa, a bit lost herself, feels a connection to the maligned monarch, devouring history books and searching for the truth. Walking across a parking lot in Leicester, she is absolutely certain Richard’s grave is there. She begins fundraising to commission the excavation of the site, which eventually leads to the discovery of Richard III’s remains. A true yet incredible story!
