We are very pleased that the Deutsche Postcode Lotterie has become a sponsor of FILM WITHOUT BORDERS e.V. this year. What exactly makes your company so special?
Friederike Behrends: The Deutsche Postcode Lottery is a large non-profit social lottery and its concept is unique: with us, you can win something every day, every week and every month and support good causes, especially in your neighbourhood. Participants win together with their neighbours and do good at the same time. At least 30 percent of all ticket proceeds go to projects in the areas of equal opportunities, social cohesion, nature conservation and environmental protection. Thanks to the numerous participants in Germany, we have already been able to support more than 4,400 social and green projects with more than 175 million euros since our launch in 2016. Postcode Lotteries now exists in five countries in Europe and with over 12.5 billion euros, the Postcode Lottery Group is one of the largest private funders in the world. The mission is to work together to make the world a better place for people and nature.
Why do you support FILM WITHOUT BORDERS?
Friederike Behrends: FILM WITHOUT FRONTIERS creates a special meeting place in Brandenburg where a wide variety of people can watch specially selected films and discuss them and related topics, all in the context of humanity. Places of encounter and exchange on this very topic cannot be supported enough in these challenging times.That is why we are happy to support this commitment, because it makes an important contribution to cohesion in our society.We are convinced that the world benefits from strong, non-profit organisations.
The German Postcode Lottery “doesn’t just give money” but also promotes exchange within its “funding family”. How important is networking between the projects to you?
Friederike Behrends: We are very pleased that the Postcode family in Germany has been growing steadily since 2016. With the increasing number of funded organisations, more and more overlaps between the organisations we fund and on topics are also emerging. We actively promote exchange and also help with networking, because we are convinced that we can only change and achieve something together. Something really big and sustainable can only come about when not everyone works for themselves, but when people and organisations join forces. And this does not only concern our sponsoring families, but all of us.
