Rabiye Kurnaz (Meltem Kaptan), a Turkish woman, leads the life of a modest housewife in her terraced house in Bremen. Her life changes abruptly when her son Murat lands in Guantanamo. Suddenly she is standing before the Supreme Court in Washington. The fight for the release of her son Murat from the Guantanamo prison camp catapults the Turkish housewife Rabiye Kurnaz from her terraced house in Bremen Hemelingen directly into world politics and finally before the Supreme Court in Washington DC. At her side is human rights lawyer Bernhard Docke, who argues with her and becomes a friend. “Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush” is a political thriller, comedy, lawyer, and family drama. Full of temperament and with a big heart, Andreas Dresen and Laila Stieler tell of the almost hopeless struggle of an unequal couple against arbitrariness and injustice.
