Premiere
The film, which celebrated its world movie premiere in the Panorama section of the Berlinale in 2018, deals with the emotional subject of boat refugees and tells of a woman who is torn out of her world of comfort. The ambitious paramedic Rike finally has vacation and decides to fulfill her long-standing dream to travel on her own on a sailing boat from Gibraltar to Ascension, a small tropical island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Her wish for a trouble-free holiday starts well until – after a heavy storm – she hits a hopeless, damaged and overcrowded refugee boat which is about to sink. The circumstances threaten to drown more than a hundred people. Rike tries to organize help and demands aid via radio. But nobody feels responsible for them. Rike makes a momentous decision and takes the 14 years old Kingsley on her boat.
