Karim Ainouz has been awarded the Amnesty International Film Prize at this year’s Berlinale for his documentary ‘Zentralflughafen THF’ (Central Airport THF). “Touchingly and unagitatedly, daily life in the refugee emergency shelter in Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport is shown by the director. With a delicate glance and thus constantly on eye-level, he tells of the inhabitants of the hangar, allows them to tell their dramatic tales and presents their difficult life situation” – this is how the jury justified their decision. Equally pleasing to mention is that as of 2018 the ‘House by the Lake’ bursary, which is every year awarded at the WITHOUT BORDERS festival, will also be supported by the Media Board of Berlin-Brandenburg.
